Sound Paintings - The Myth of Arcadia: Afternoon
Listen to the music
These prints were triggered by seeing an exhibition of the work of the French classical painter Poussin and the American abstract expressionist Cy Twombly. Separated by three centuries, they both lived in Italy from the age of 30, absorbing Italian painting, landscape and light into their work. Whilst they both often depicted Arcadian landscapes, Poussin’s painting Et in Arcadia Ego reminds us that even in the most beautiful landscape we cannot escape death. I have tried to capture the beauty but also the darker aspect of their work.
