About Edward Lee
- Interests – first Charlie Parker, Django Rheinhardt, then a wide range of music - folk, Indian classical and 20th century classical composers
- Persuaded Oxford to let him to do a Music degree, though he had no formal qualifications
- Pioneered the teaching of jazz, pop music and ‘other forms which the Establishment hated’
- Various books, notably Pop Music in School, still seen as significant for the modern school Music curriculum
- Produced education materials for the first WOMAD festival
- Played for decades live in ballrooms, jazz clubs and functions
- 1968-70 started and directed CMU (album Open Spaces, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Purcell Room concert) with Terry Mortimer (later MD at the National Theatre) and Roger Odell (later of Shakatak)
- 1990s: several Soho Festivals
- Examiner for many years - Registry of Guitar Tutors and London College of Music
- Since 2000 has returned to his first interest – composition – because of the exciting new opportunities offered by music technology
